Any ideas?

Any ideas what type of spider this is? The photo is not the best but this spider has been guarding the end of the garden where the melons and pumpkins are growing for the past couple weeks. We're giving it credit for the huge watermelon we have that is almost ready for harvesting since it's been doing a great job of keeping the bad bugs away.

Common spiders found in gardens in Wisconsin include argiope spiders. Argiope (rhymes with calliope) spiders are orb spiders belonging to the family Araneidae. The name "argiope" is typically associated with the black & yellow garden spider. They are commonly seen in gardens and fields on shrubbery and tall flowers in late summer and fall.

Here is a site on the Yellow Grass Spider, which is what this one looks like. Hard to tell from the photo though.

Great info, thanks everyone! Initial reaction from one of our volunteers was a wolf spider but descriptions didn't quite match and a google search for spider with yellow on back yielded little good info. Descriptions of the black and yellow garden spider matched well with our spider. It showed up in late summer and has built it's Web in the tall jiu cai (Chinese Leek) on the edge of the garden. Photo was taken with a phone so we'll have to get a better camera out there and get another pic.
