Thoroughly Tilled and Ready for Planting

We lucked out this year.  One of our garden volunteers has a coworker whose husband has an tiller attachment for his tractor.  And Voila! within 15 minutes on a Friday afternoon he had repeatedly tilled the entire garden saving us from hours of tilling with the rototillers we had lined up.

Another Community Garden Opportunity

If you don't have space of your own for a garden and you haven't been able to convince your employer to allow you to dig up part of their lawn for a garden, here's another opportunity in the Twins Cities area to have a garden plot:

Amazing, Indestructible Kale Part Deux

The kale had already amazed us last fall and now again this spring when the first group of volunteers went out to the garden this week for spring clean up. What a surprise to find that the kale had survived the winter!

Lewis House and Mount Calvary will be receiving an early harvest of kale this spring.

Corporate Volunteerism Council Award -

We were thrilled last week to learn our company had won the CVC Employee Engagement Award for our garden. The award came with a $500 check for Lewis House! Go team!

We also learned that several other corporations in our area are interested in digging up lawn and putting in gardens. Give us a few more years and we are going to see fresh fruits and vegetables replacing lawn cuttings all over the place.

Speaking of fresh fruits: This is garden clean up week (and rock picking week - my favorite) so we've been out in the perennial bed. The strawberries are up! No fruit yet, but it's just a matter of time.
